Honor Flight Band
Overview
The City of Fairfax Band Association’s “Honor Flight Band” has collaborated with the Honor Flight Network since 2010 to welcome veterans to the Nation’s Capital.
What is an Honor Flight?
The mission of the Honor Flight Network is to “honor our nation’s veterans by bringing them to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials built to commemorate their service and sacrifice.” This nonprofit organization has brought over 317,000 veterans to the Nation’s Capital in the past 20 years. Veterans depart from one of 128 hubs in 46 states throughout continental United States. Participation in an Honor Flight trip gives veterans the opportunity to share this momentous occasion with other comrades, remember the fallen, and share their stories and experiences with other veterans. Honored veterans always travel free of charge, thanks to generous donations.
The first Honor Flights brought WWII veterans to see their memorial in Washington, DC, when the memorial opened in 2004. The Honor Flight Network has since expanded their program to include Korean War and Vietnam War veterans.

Honor Flight Band
Under the direction of Jeff Seffens, the “Honor Flight Band” plays patriotic music as veterans disembark from their plane and enter the airport terminal. This music welcomes the veterans to the Nation’s capital and sets the tone for their special day of recognition and remembrance. Members of the band come from the City of Fairfax Band and the Main Street Community Band, which are ensembles of the City of Fairfax Band Association. The Honor Flight Band performs regularly at the Ronald Reagan National Airport and the Washington Dulles International Airport.
Over the years, the band has performed at both the 500th and 1000th Honor Flight (via American Airlines) coming into Reagan, and the 100th Honor Flight landing at Dulles from the Chicago Hub. In 2025, the band also performed for the annual ‘Ride of the Patriots – Rolling to Remember’ on Memorial Day.
By participating in the Honor Flights program, the City of Fairfax Band Association proudly affirms its role as a civic ambassador as it extends its musical mission beyond the concert hall to honor veterans across the nation and in so doing uplift them, their families, and their communities.
