The results of the 2019 Young Artist Competition are in! Christian Aliferis, alto saxophonist and James Madison High student, was selected by a panel of judges following the finalist recital, March 10. Kudos to Christian and his stellar competition: finalists Michael Baker on euphonium, Lake Braddock Secondary School, and Stephanie Manning on bassoon, McLean High School. Thanks to the three for their professional-grade perfomances.
The City of Fairfax Band will showcase Aliferis in their May 4 concert at the Ernst Community Cultural Center on the Annandale NVCC campus. He will perform “Tableaux de Provence” by Paule Marice with the Band.
Since 1996, the City of Fairfax Band Association has sponsored the Young Artist Competition to encourage the development of outstanding high school musicians who plan to pursue a musical career. The winner of the annual competition will be a guest soloist featured at the spring concert and will receive a financial award of $2,000 to support the young musician’s future musical endeavors.
