The City of Fairfax Band’s own Roy Burgess has been awarded The President’s Award by the Association of Concert Bands (ACB) for his service as Treasurer to the organization. A member of the French horn section, Burgess joined the City of Fairfax Band in 1991 and has served as President, Vice-President and Treasurer, and continues in several advising capacities.
On receiving the 2021 ACB President’s Award, Burgess commented, “I was both honored and humbled. Serving as treasurer of ACB was a fantastic experience which put me in position to help drive the ACB mission to foster excellence in Concert Band music through performance, education, and advocacy. What a thrill!
“Working with the outstanding ACB board members and so many wonderful ACB members brought new meaning to the years of my participation in community bands whenever I could and wherever the Navy sent me. In addition, attending the ACB annual conventions and experiencing the enthusiasm and musicality of both individuals and performing bands broadened my vision of what is possible for all of us. Receiving this award capped an experience of a lifetime!”
