The Northern Virginia Youth Winds plays its Opening Concert of the 2021-22 season on December 12, at 3 pm, at Katherine Johnson Middle School. In their first live concert since 2019, the NVYW will present works by Malcolm Arnold, Antonin Dvorak, Camille Saint-Saens, Michael Markowski and more. The program is varied, but one unique aspect is that it features two smaller ensemble works adapted for full band: Malcom Arnold’s Prelude, Siciliano and Rondo was originally the Little Suite for Brass, and the first movement of Antonin Dvorak’s Serenade for Winds works well for large ensemble.
