Honor Flights at Reagan National Airport

Vietnam Vet at Honor Flight DCA

The City of Fairfax Honor Flight Band shared their time and talents on Saturday, September 15 and throughout the spring and summer as Veterans from WWII, Korea, and Vietnam made a special trip to Washington, D.C. to visit their memorials, paying tribute to those who served their country during its time of need.  For many of these ladies and gentlemen, this was their first and only trip to the Nation’s Capital, and our music was the first thing they heard as they got off to their tour.

The day was filled with joy as the veterans arrived from various states, including West Virginia and Wisconsin. The flights are organized by the Honor Flight Network. This day at DCA included many volunteers from Washington, D.C and Northern Virginia who greeted the vets, organized the flights and memorial tours. Students from Marshall High School graciously greeted each veteran, many of whom were not much older when they began their tours of duty,

The band played tunes from all generations, from “Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree” to “The Ballad of the Green Beret”.
