Please Consider Donating to our Fall 2019 Fund Raising Appeal

Fifty years ago, Mr. Matt Hines gathered a group of high school students and some adult community musicians to perform an outdoor concert at the Fairfax City Hall. The band’s history continued under the direction of Mr. Phil Fuller, and then Dr. Thomas Hill.  Under Dr. Hill’s leadership, the band began offering year-round concerts to the community and garnered a reputation as a leader of community bands nationwide.

Your hometown community band has achieved great milestones over the past 50 years.  Some of these include the John Philip Sousa Foundation’s Sudler Silver Scroll Award; invitations to national community band conferences with performances in New Orleans, Allentown, and Virginia Beach; and representing the U.S. on the shores of France with performances for D-Day Commemoration Observances. We take great pride in representing the City of Fairfax wherever we travel.

Concerts begin soon with the City of Fairfax Band’s opener on Saturday, October 26th, at 7:30 pm, at Fairfax High School. The program features music we have commissioned over the years and includes the World Premiere of A Southern Jubilee, an exciting romp by veteran Hollywood composer Bruce Broughton.  For the holidays, hear free concerts by the Main Street Community Band on December 15th, and the City of Fairfax Band with the Fairfax Choral Society on December 21st.  And don’t miss our special 50th Anniversary Concert, Music of the Knights, featuring Broadway singers and the City of Fairfax Band performing the music of Andrew Lloyd Webber, Elton John, and Paul McCartney on March 14th, 2020, at 7:30pm at Fairfax High School.

To help us celebrate, please consider increasing your support this year, and send a contribution by October 31stThis fall we hope to raise $5,000 toward a goal of $10,000.  Your gift now will help to cover production expenses including rehearsal and concert hall rental, music costs, guest artist fees, equipment rental, program printing, and the many other expenses that are incurred to make every concert a special event.

Our goals remain the same: to continue providing outstanding musical entertainment throughout the Fairfax and Washington metropolitan areas, and to enrich the music education of our community’s talented young musicians.

Your support is important to our success.   Please consider partnering with us now to ensure another successful season.  We look forward to seeing you at our opening 50th Anniversary concert on Saturday, October 26th, at Fairfax High School
