In May of 2015, the City of Fairfax Band presented a program featuring the music of Robert Russell Bennett and introducing our audiences to the music of Ira Hearshen. Our 2015-16 season opener highlights the music of these two American composers again, featuring Bennett's Suite of Old American Dances and the world premiere of Hearshen's The Aragon Ballroom, in a program centered around American dance styles through the years. The program also included ballet music by Aaron Copland and a performance of Joseph Turrin's Fandango featuring guest soloists Mark Wood and Matthew Niess, members of the U.S. Army Blues. Come early for a "Meet the Artists" Reception.

Join the Main Street musicians for a jolly mix of seasonal favorites. We've planned the concert for your entire family and the afternoon will fill their hearts with the holiday spirit. Share that spirit with others by bringing a nonperishable food item, which will go to a local food bank to help feed Northern Virginia families in need.

The Fairfax Choral Society once again joins the band for this local celebration of the Christmas season, our annual gift to the community. The program highlights the world premiere of Randol Alan Bass's setting of Hodie Christus Natus Est, commissioned by the City of Fairfax Band Association specifically for this performance with the Choral Society. The program also features music from Giancarlo Menotti's Amahl and the Night Visitors, and selections from The Nutcracker, along with some familiar holiday classics and the anticipated visit from Santa!

Our "American Vision" commemorates so much that is American—our formative leaders, our heroes, and, of course, our music. What music is more American than familiar jazz favorites by Glenn Miller and Henry Mancini or marches by John Philip Sousa? The Main Street Band and their guest, The Fairfax Swing Band, present a musical program that reflects on people, places, and events that are the cornerstones of American heritage and history.

The City of Fairfax Band welcomes the coming of spring with an evocative selection of classic compositions for the silver screen. The program features music of famous 20th century Hollywood composers, Erich Korngold, Jerry Goldsmith, and Aaron Copland. Clarinetist Dennis Strawley, concertmaster of one of the nation's premiere military bands, will perform John Williams's Viktor's Tale, from the Spielberg film The Terminal.
